Instead, workers pivot to sugars — nectar, ripe fruit, sodas, spilled juice, and anything sweet within scent range. That sugar-scavenging behavior brings wasps into much closer contact with people. Ground-nest specifics. Underground colonies are the worst DIY target. Store-bought sprays penetrate only a few inches into the entrance tunnel and rarely reach the actual nest chamber below. What they reliably do is anger the colony.
